Volvagia Boss Guide: Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Instead of a rock monster, the Eldin Temple in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom features a giant, fire-breathing dragon called Volvagia.
This dragon has a winding body and a large green orb on its crimson neck.
The boss battle against Volvagia doesn't have traditional phases and takes place in an arena where movement and reflexes are crucial.
Your choice of echoes and abilities will impact how much damage you inflict.
This battle is unique because Volvagia remains airborne throughout the fight.
You'll need to adapt your movement and combat strategies to deal with Volvagia's attacks, which have surprising range and high damage potential.
Volvagia constantly moves between different points on the map, each with its own attack and terrain.
To navigate the battlefield, use the jets of smoke rising from the ground and equip a winged echo to move quickly and avoid attacks.
The battle is fast-paced but relatively easy to win if you use the right echoes and move around the environment strategically.
Because Volvagia doesn't have phases, you have a good chance of defeating it quickly.
Defeating Volvagia: A Guide
You will start the fight on the centre platform as Volvagia emerges from the upper right and fires a large green orb at you. Dodge this by jumping to the right and summoning Ghirro before flying into the air.
Volvagia will follow his initial attack with a barrage of fireballs, which are easy to avoid while you stay airborne.
You will then have a few seconds to transform Zelda into her swordfighter form and attack. It would be wise to also summon a Darknut or other offensive echo to maximize damage. However, this won't be possible in every part of the arena due to scorching hot floors.
After taking enough damage, Volvagia will fly into the lava before reappearing in the upper right corner. This part of the arena is also dangerous, so find the closest stream of smoke, hop onto Ghirro, and repeat the attack pattern.
When Volvagia appears in the lower right corner, you will notice he is no longer in melee range, and you will need to either use Zelda's bow or summon ranged echoes to damage him. He will also use a sweeping neck attack alongside his usual moves, so make sure you don't stand too close and lose unnecessary hearts.
The lower left is equally complicated, as Zelda can't step on the hot ground without being burned. Thankfully, you can keep spawning echoes in her place or use Link's bow to close the distance.
Volvagia will occasionally appear in the middle and unleash a flaming breath attack that will heat up any platform you are standing on, forcing you to move quickly or leave echoes to die. But don't worry, you can just spawn more in their place.
The challenges won't get any harder than this. The pattern will continue until Volvagia is defeated.
Rewards for Conquering Volvagia
Volvagia will drop a full piece of heart, which increases and restores Zelda’s health. Tri will also gain enough experience to level up, allowing them to summon certain echoes at a lower cost.
