GreedFall 2: Dying World - Dying Forest Quest Guide
As part of your initiation as doneigad in GreedFall 2, you'll complete two quests for your village. One of these quests, 'A Dying Forest', requires you to investigate why the game in the forest is disappearing.
While this quest seems simple, it actually offers various approaches and choices. This guide will walk you through the quest, outlining the options you can make.
Completing a Dying Forest
Your main objective in this quest is to discover why the forest game is vanishing and find a solution.
First, talk to Denid in the village, who will provide your initial clue.
Finding the Clan Hunters
Denid mentions hunters who were searching for the disappearing game, implying that finding them might reveal the cause. Head south from the village towards the hunter's camp in the Ancient Forest.
At the camp, use tracking mode to locate the hunters' tracks. The tracks lead east from the camp for a short distance before turning north.
Continue following the footprints until you reach an area with traps. Be cautious when navigating this area to avoid stepping on the traps, which inflict a long bleed debuff that deals damage over time. You can either sneak past the traps or use the Mechanics skill to disarm them.
After following the tracks further, you'll see the hunters being attacked by wolves. Approach them to begin a battle with the wolves. Fight off this group of wolves, then another group, then speak to the hunters.
Roarg and Berag are caught in the traps, so you'll need to find some way of helping them. You have two options here; you can either try to disarm the traps yourself or find the foreigners that have settled in the woods, who the traps presumably belong to, to help you disarm them.
Assisting the Hunters
To find the foreigners, head east towards the Trapper's Camp. This is technically a restricted area, but you won't be attacked for just walking in.
Speak to the trappers and ask for their help removing the traps. They will demand 20 gold for their aid. If you have it, you can pay it now; otherwise, you'll need to go get some gold.
Before you leave the camp, open up the nearby chest to get a shovel and some other supplies that you'll need later. Now, read the note nearby to learn of the trapper's buried treasure.
If you don't already have it, there are a few ways to get the gold you need to pay for the trapper's aid. You can sell items to the merchant in your village, or you can try looking for the trapper's treasure.
The treasure is located in a small alcove to the south of the Trapper's Camp. Use the shovel here to dig up the Trapper's Loot, which is worth 2,000 gold. Now, return to your village and sell it to the merchant to pocket the gold.
Return to the trapper's camp and speak to the trapper again. Then, pay 20 gold. This will return Roarg and Berag to you, and the trapper will remove the traps.
Although the traps are removed, the hunters need supplies to continue. You need to get two Minor Lizard Ointments and two Minor Healing Potions. If you tried to remove the traps yourself and failed, you'll also need Splints.
You can buy all of these items from the merchant in the village or craft them yourself if you have the necessary ingredients and skills. Additionally, you can find Minor Healing Potions in the chest in the trapper's camp.
Once you have the supplies, go back to the hunters and speak to them to heal them.
Convincing the Trappers to Depart
Now, you need to get the trappers to leave to prevent them from hunting all the game. There are a few options to make them leave.
You can either
- Offer a trade
- Pay 2,000 gold
- Try diplomacy
- Kill them
We recommend first trying a diplomacy check. Be sure to save before you talk to the trapper and roll a diplomacy check. If you succeed, the trappers will agree to leave, completing the quest.
If diplomatic efforts fail, you can attempt trading or paying them to leave, using the gold acquired from selling the Trapper's Loot. Alternatively, you can try to fight your way out, though these enemies may be challenging, especially if you're under-leveled and under-equipped.
Once the trappers agree to leave, the quest 'A Dying Forest' will be finished, granting you some experience and equipment.
