Genshin Impact: Phlogiston Extraction Guide

Natlan, released in Genshin Impact 5.0, holds many secrets, including the Phlogiston Extraction Research Center. This Fatui-controlled area features hundreds of captured Saurians being experimented on for their powers. Players will encounter various puzzles and Fatui to overcome.

Successfully completing the Phlogiston Extraction Research Center grants players the "Righteous Resistance" achievement, a Luxurious chest, and the quest item "Shattered Night Jade".

There are no prerequisites for accessing the Phlogiston Extraction Research Center. Travelers can venture there after unlocking the Natlan map.

Locating the Phlogiston Extraction Research Center

The Phlogiston Extraction Research Center is located in the Coatepec Mountains, east of the Ancestral Temple.

To locate the entrance, teleport to the Blazing Ruins and follow the road south. The path leads through Fatui camps into a small valley and then a cave.

Defeat the Fatui and proceed toward the cave.

As you move forward, you'll see Saurians trapped within cages. These cannot be rescued immediately. First, you must infiltrate the Phlogiston Extraction Research Center and thwart the Fatui's plans.

Exploring the Research Center

Expect to fight many Fatui enemies, so bring strong characters. Along the way, remember to open carts with round doors.

After defeating the Fatui and rescuing the Saurian, you'll need to unlock a door by solving a puzzle.

To solve the puzzle, transform into the green Saurian. Look at the lava on the floor to find a round object (Relay Ball), which you can easily pull in using the Saurian's ability. Use it to open the door.

Once the door is open, you'll also unlock a hidden waypoint.

Central Area

After unlocking the waypoint and moving forward, you'll reach a large area with a giant machine in the center.

Go towards the center and defeat all the Fatui.

To continue, you must complete the puzzle on the huge machine in the center.

To complete this puzzle, you need to locate two Relay Balls and place them in front of the large machine's mechanism.

Discovering a Hidden Treasure Chest

There is a Precious Chest on top of the central machine. To reach the top, go to its sides and ascend by move along with the pipes.

Be cautious of the lava and your stamina bar!

Finding the First Relay Ball

The first relay ball is found in the far northern direction of the Phlogiston Extraction Research Center teleport waypoint.

Enter the cave and defeat the enemies inside. To retrieve the Relay Ball from this cave, you must solve a small puzzle.

To solve this puzzle, look towards the small piece of land and find a Saurian digging through the ground. Capture it to make it come to the ground and spawn a grappling hook.

Take the grappling hook and install it on the crate near the Relay Ball, transform into a green Saurian and move the crate towards the entrance of the gate.

The crate will prevent the gate from fully closing, making it easy to take the Relay Ball.

Finding the Second Relay Ball

Installing the first Relay Ball will open the entrance to the second cave, where two Fatui will attack you. Defeat them and enter the cave.

To obtain the second Relay Ball, transform into a green Saurian and use Coilgrass Sigils to reach the suspended Cage.

You can't return along the same path after taking the Relay Ball. To go back to the central room, look for the platform with a ladder underneath it (near the cage that held the second Relay Ball).

Jump onto the platform and proceed to find a gate that can be opened with the Relay Ball. Open it and head towards the Phlogiston Extraction machine for the final stage.

Unlocking the Righteous Resistance Achievement

Prepare for a long battle! Once both Relay Balls are installed, turn the dial in the machine twice to initiate a challenge.

You will be ambushed by the Fatui and must defend yourself for 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, a final group of Fatui Agents will attack you.

Defeat the Fatui Agents to free all the trapped Saurians. This will also make a Luxurious chest appear. Opening this chest will grant you the Righteous Resistance Achievement.

Leaving the Research Center

Your journey isn't over yet. Go to the cave with the second reality ball. Use the key you got from the Luxurious Chest to open the cart inside the cave.

Use the Saurian's ability to swim through the water and exit the Phlogiston Extraction Research Center in style! You'll receive an Exquisite Chest as a reward.
