Elder Scrolls: Castles - All Weapons Ranked
Highlight
- Each weapon type in The Elder Scrolls: Castles has specific strengths and weaknesses against other types, leading to varied combat strategies.
- Bows excel against battleaxes but struggle against daggers, providing versatility in ranged combat.
- Swords, when paired with shields, offer significant defense and enable consistent damage output, ultimately benefiting the entire squad in combat.
The Elder Scrolls: Castles features five distinct weapon types, each excelling in a specific area. This limited number of weapon types allows for a balanced gameplay experience where each weapon type shines in certain situations or against specific enemies.
Due to this balanced design, almost every weapon in the game has a use. However, certain weapon combinations are crucial for maintaining a well-rounded party. It's essential to consider the enemies you're facing and plan your strategies accordingly.
5 Bows
Effective Against Battleaxes, Vulnerable to Daggers
While bows are functional ranged weapons, the Stave offers more versatility. Nevertheless, bows still have their advantages, despite certain drawbacks.
The main advantage of the bow is its ability to keep the user out of harm's way. This can divert enemy attention from other characters, who should be equipped with sufficient defense to handle the incoming attacks.
Bows offer a variety of abilities, some targeting multiple enemies and others focusing on single targets. These abilities can inflict significant damage, hopefully eliminating threats before they pose a danger to your tank.
4 Daggers
Effective Against Bows, Vulnerable to Swords
Daggers, in contrast to bows, excel in close-quarters combat, ideal for characters designed to deliver heavy damage without attracting undue enemy attention. Without a tank to absorb damage, dagger-wielders are likely to be targeted by sword-wielders, leading to unfavorable outcomes.
In an ideal scenario, the tank draws aggro, allowing the dagger-wielder to eliminate bow-wielding enemies and then move behind the tank's target. They will operate on the fringes of the battlefield until the opportune moment to engage, inflicting substantial damage throughout.
Some dagger abilities involve throwing the dagger, giving the user ranged options beyond just melee attacks. This versatility makes dagger-wielders more than just one-trick-ponies.
3 Battleaxes
Effective Against Staves, Vulnerable to Bows
Battleaxe users excel against mages but struggle against archers, meaning ranged opponents can be either trivial or dangerous. However, battleaxes can inflict massive damage on large enemy groups.
Like their dagger counterparts, axe-wielders are melee damage dealers who aren't designed to be the focus. They thrive in the thick of the action, but need support to survive when facing multiple enemies.
When paired with a shield-bearer, a battleaxe user can charge into the fray and unleash their whirlwind ability, dealing heavy damage to nearby enemies. This can wipe out entire rooms, especially when enemies are clustered. Having two battleaxe characters can effortlessly decimate enemy waves using their whirlwind abilities.
2 Staves
Effective Against Swords, Vulnerable to Battleaxes
Stave wielders pose a significant threat to sword users, effectively handling enemy tanks unless a battleaxe user charges them.
Staves are incredibly versatile, offering a range of abilities, both offensive and defensive. The choice of stave significantly impacts the flow of battle.
When using a stave, it's crucial to consider the elemental types of enemies, as staves primarily deal elemental damage. Enemies strong against your element will pose a challenge, but countering them correctly will give you the upper hand.
1 Swords
Effective Against Daggers, Vulnerable to Staves
Swords are the best weapons in TES: Castles, not due to the sword itself, but because having a sword allows you to carry a shield. A shield is essential, as it significantly improves the performance of your squad.
With a shield, you will take considerably less damage from enemies. They will repeatedly strike your shield, and unless they have a stave, you won't feel much impact. Stay in place, absorb the damage, and keep their attention on you.
The shield-bearing character won't be completely idle, as they can still deliver consistent damage with their sword. The rest of the team can then focus on dealing the bulk of the damage, unhindered by the enemy.
